Agere and Nortel announce standard for 10 Gbps receivers
In a bid to have its technologies adopted industry-wide, Agere and Nortel Networks have claimed to have developed the first multi-source agreement to establish standards for surface-mount 10 Gbps receivers.
"This multi-source agreement ensures that systems makers have a choice among compatible sources of leading edge surface-mount receivers," said Patrick Walsh, VP of product line management, optical components, Nortel Networks.
"It leads the way in meeting the industry requirement for smaller, easier-to-use optical receivers." The standard is designed for small-form-factor (8 by 10.7 by 3.3 mm), surface-mount receivers. The companies said final specifications for the multi-source agreement would be made available shortly, but that it does specify product package outlines, pin function definitions, and optical and electrical characteristics.
