Vishay Intertechnology WSL0612 Power Metal Strip Resistor

Vishay Intertechnology has launched a surface-mount Power Metal Strip resistor with a wide-side terminal construction that yields a high 1 W power rating in a compact 0612 case size. The WSL0612 combines its high power-to-footprint-size ratio with low resistance values and stable resistance tolerances.

The construction of the resistor incorporates a solid metal nickel-chrome alloy resistive element with low TCR (<20 ppm/°C). This results in a high-power resistor that maintains the electrical characteristics of the Power Metal Strip construction. Its small size allows for the design of high-power circuits featuring small resistors for higher-performance end products.

The resistor is suitable for current sensing and pulse applications, including switching and linear power supplies, instruments, power amplifiers and shunts, in automotive electronic controls such as engines, brushless DC motors, antilock brakes, climate and battery management controls; industrial controls, including down-hole test/measurement equipment for oil/gas well drilling; inverter controls for HVAC systems; and DC/DC converters for servers, VRMs for laptops and Li-ion battery safety and management.

The device’s all-welded construction contributes to its good electrical performance. The processing technique produces low resistance values ranging from 0.001 to 0.003 Ω, with tight tolerances of 1 and 5%. The product provides low thermal EMF (<3 μV/°C) and a temperature range from -65 to +170°C. It is lead-free, RoHS compliant and Vishay Green.
