Mindspeed Technologies has extended its 3G broadcast video family with what it claims is the industry''s lowest-power video cable driver offering standard definition, high definition/standard definition and 3G video support.

The M21428 video cable driver is said to be the only dual-differential output cable driver available and the first to support 2.5 V in addition to legacy 3.3 V. The differential outputs eliminate the need for two discrete external cable drivers.

The device is a high-speed, low-power, low-jitter cable driver designed for serial digital video data through 75 coaxial cable typically used in SMPTE and DVB-ASI video applications. The cable driver is optimised for performance from 143 up to 2970 Mbps with selectable slew rates for SD and HD/2xHD applications.

The typical output rise/fall time of the M21428 is 100 ps for HD and 2xHD rates and 600 ps for SD rates. The default output voltage swing is compliant with SMPTE 292M, 259M, 344M and 424M using a 750 &plusmn1% resistor. The M21428 is pin compatible with the M21418 and M21408 (except the M21408 has no SD/HD slew rate control). The M21428 supports a maximum single-ended output swing of 1800 mVp-p when configured appropriately.
