Sonitron has developed what it claims is the first flat piezo ceramic speaker for underwater applications.

The device is based on a new principle of piezo ceramics and a composite metal/polymer layer. The composite membrane reduces unwanted resonance peaks to provide a more even frequency response than can be achieved with conventional designs.

The frame and front panel are injection moulded in one part. At the rear the PCB is sealed at its edges to prevent any water penetration.

The SPS-4640-UW-01 is low weight, shows limited distortion and low energy consumption relative to sound output level.

Piezo ceramic speakers do not generate an electromagnetic field, thus making it easier for designers to ensure that their products meet EMC requirements and regulations.
