The ScanInspect VPI from ScanCAD checks boards, films and stencils to ensure they are correct before assembly. The system also inspects work-in-progress for assembly defects.

This process control tool qualifies each step of the assembly and fabrication process before production and couples a high resolution, flatbed colour scanner with a dual lighting system to provide a platform that verifies all the components before they reach the manufacturing floor.

In board assembly, it uses Gerber, CAD or Golden part data to validate board fabrication, stencil cleanliness, paste/adhesive deposition and populated boards.

As a first article tool, it checks line setup before beginning full speed production.

The calibrated scanner and dual lighting systems (reflected / transmitted) allow inspection of stencils as well as bare and populated boards on the same versatile system.

It can function as a production tool to check holes, slots, printing etc to ensure parts conform to specification for shape, position, colour and size. It can also be used to detect stretch, wear, blocked or damaged apertures and ensure that new stencils and screens match the board revision or that cleaning operations have been successful.

For bare boards, production facilities can use the device with FR4, ceramic or flex-parts to ensure they match the original artwork design.
