Seagate Technology has announced what it claims is the world's first 2.5" disk drive built on perpendicular recording technology - a 160 GB notebook with 25% more capacity than the largest capacity notebook drive currently available.

The company has become, it believes, the first to announce plans to produce strong, transparent hardware-based data protection for notebook computers that prevents unauthorised access to data.
