Field Wired Connectors

Turck has announced the insulation avoidance connector (IAC) that helps to overcome the problem of wiring cables and connectors in the field. It is an alternative to termination methods such as crimped, screw terminals or soldered contacts.

Instead of stripping and soldering, the individual conductors are placed into an elastic insert and the assembly is then screwed together.

The contact technology provides tool-less installation and a secure electrical connection involving a pin-shaped contact that is forced directly into the end of the conductor. This pin is then in contact with the stranded wires making up the conductor without the need to remove any insulation.

IAC connections are rated for the full 4 A of current supported by the eurofast connector design. The elastic material of the insert used to ensure proper connection also provides a gas-tight and vibration resistant connector.

The connectors are available in 4 and 5 pin versions, for use with 20 to 26 AWG cables and are rated to IP67.
