Distributed temperature sensing
Agilent has introduced the N4385A (indoor) and N4386A (outdoor) integrated fibre-based distributed temperature sensing (DTS) systems. They enable photonic temperature sensing for a wide range of industry applications such as oil and gas producers, pipeline operators, electrical power distributors and security system operators and monitors temperature over long distances to optimise production or to detect leaks or fires.
Both products' architecture uses code correlation to achieve accuracy, reduce power consumption and increase the instrument's lifetime.
The sensors use the raman effect for fire and power cable applications and the outdoor system for oil and pipeline applications. They provide complete temperature profiles for up to 8 km, with a spatial resolution of less than 1 m and a temperature resolution of less than 0.1°C.
