The Electronics Industry Action Agenda report has been released by the Hon Richard Alston, Minister for Communication, IT and the Arts, and the Hon Ian Macfarland, Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources. It was presented at the 9th World Electronic Forum at Australian Technology Park, Sydney and AEEMA has been allocated a key role in the implementation of these recommendations.

The report sets out a vision for growth of Australia's electronics industry - to double Australia's electronics exports and turnover by 2008 - as well as strategies to achieve that vision.

Angus M Robinson, Chief Executive, AEEMA said that the report was a milestone in the development of Australia's electronics and photonics industries.

Bruce Thompson CEO, Keycorp, is chair of the group which is tasked with implementing the 17 recommendations in the report.

The agenda provides a framework for the industry to achieve its vision. It aims to unify the industry, raise its profile in Australia and overseas, improve on commercialising its research and development capabilities and aim to exploit global markets, including China and NAFTA.

The report complements the findings of Enabling our Future, a recently released document about Australia's information and communications technology (ICT) industry and strategies for its future development.
