Trade fair expands with new zone

Friday, 12 September, 2008

Running from 13 to 16 October 2008, the 28th HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) will bring together more than 2500 electronics industry suppliers at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre.

Backed by its 28-year history, the fair is claimed to be the biggest electronics event of its kind in Asia, and the second largest in the world. This year, a new section, the In-Vehicle Electronics & GPS Zone, will be introduced, providing additional opportunities for buyers to find new suppliers and products.

The new zone will be in the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre, in China Resources Building, adjacent to HKCEC. The creation of the In-Vehicle Electronics & GPS Zone is a response to the rapid growth of this industry sector.

Brand name products are always in high demand among consumers. The Hall of Fame is a showcase presenting companies which place a strong emphasis on design and which create collections of branded electronic goods.

Other popular zones include Digital World, Home Tech and the Technology Exchange Zone.

The electronics industry makes a huge contribution to Hong Kong's economy. It is the largest merchandise export earner, accounting for around 50% of Hong Kong's total exports in 2007.

For the first four months of 2008, Hong Kong's total exports of electronics products reached US$58.4 billion (HK$455.8 billion), a 14% increase over the same period last year.

Exports to emerging markets such as India (+59.4%), Poland (+51.7%), Russia (+47.4%), Turkey (+40.2%) and Vietnam (+60.8%) are rising briskly.

Last year, more than 58,000 professional buyers from 160 countries and regions visited the fair.
