Telematics grant

Wednesday, 15 September, 2004

Australia has taken a step forward in the development of a globally competitive telematics industry with the announcement by the government of a $300,000 industry grant to the Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (AEEMA).

Telematics represents the application of the next generation of products, such as wireless technologies, to the automotive industries. Telematics also has implications for the intelligent transport systems sector, including all transport modes within Australian road and rail corridors.

There will also be a link in the future to digital home networking, with its growing connection between the home and the office. Although the project will be centred on Victoria because of the strength of the automotive industry in that state, the project team will adopt a national approach to the development of this key sector.
