NSW electronics industry cluster

Tuesday, 01 July, 2003

AEEMA, Australian Technology Park Precinct Management and ATP Innovations are to 'kick start' an industry cluster linked to the Australian Technology Park (ATP).

The aim will be to provide a delivery mechanism for a NSW state-wide implementation over the next three years of the electronics industry Action Agenda, approved by federal cabinet.

It will focus on the growth of electronics, the definition of which includes photonics, microelectronics, wireless and embedded software.

AEEMA is the national coordinator of the action agenda and the ATP has strong links with federal and state government agencies including the NSW Department of State and Regional Development.

The ATP, with its strong links to four universities and NSW TAFE, hosts a key node of the National ICT Australia Centre of Excellence, the Australian Photonics CRC and other facilities such as the Bandwidth Foundry.

This cluster could establish linkages across the Sydney greater metropolitan region (including western Sydney and the North Sydney IT corridor), as well as regional centres such as Bathurst, Illawarra and the Central Coast, all of which need to be linked into the national effort.

AEEMA is also currently discussing with government the opportunity to provide an export service based at the technology park.

A workshop will be help at ATP in seminar room 9, Bay 8, Locomotive Building at 4-6:30 pm on Thursday 17 July 2003. To register your interest in attending this meeting email kburton@aeema.asn.au
