Lucent cuts 65 local jobs
Thursday, 23 August, 2001
65 employees in Lucent's Australian operation have lost their jobs as part of the company's plans to halve its workforce.
Lucent spokeswoman Luisa Megale said the company had previously retrenched 200 Australian staff who had been working on the One.Tel account, but no more cuts were expected this year. The job losses were across the board but did not affect R&D or the software unit. Most of the cuts were in Sydney and Melbourne, with administrative positions the hardest hit.
