Key defence associations merge
Tuesday, 20 November, 2001
The Defence Electronics and Systems Association (DESA) and the Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence Systems Research Forum (C3IRF) have formally agreed to merge.
The merged organisation, called the Australian Defence Information and Electronics Systems Association (ADIESA), will promote an internationally competitive Australian defence information and systems industry.
Other key objectives include:
- Closer alignment of defence and industry to facilitate exchange of information on issues affecting command related information management in defence and associated electronic systems;
- Increased involvement of industry in force development to assist in the identification of key information and communications technologies and trends, industry capabilities and research and development opportunities that enhance ADO capability and reduce risks associated with system implementation, including technical risk;
- The provision of a forum that provides balanced industry advice to Defence on issues pertaining to capability definition, system procurement and through-life support; and
- To satisfy Capability Development Advisory Forum's information capability objectives.
According to Bryan Douglas, Deputy Chief Executive, AEEMA, the merged organisation would bring considerable benefits to both industry and the Department of Defence. "Through ADIESA, industry will gain early knowledge of Defence capability requirements," Mr Douglas said. "In turn, Defence will receive early practical advice on industry's capability, and the associated costs."
