Grant and licence agreement for nanotechnology

Advanced Nano Technologies has been awarded an Australian government research and development grant of $2.8 million.

It has also signed the first licence agreement for its patented MCP Technology, which enables the low-cost manufacture of nanopowders for high technology applications

The agreement has been signed with Samsung Corning to produce cerium oxide nanopowders using the technology for an up-front licence fee of $2 million, plus ongoing production-based royalties. Samsung Corning expects commercial production of these nanopowders to commence in 2003.

Nanopowders are at the forefront of commercial applications of nanotechnology, and have wide application in fields such as microelectronics and advanced materials.

The patented MCR technology enables the manufacture of fully dispersed powders with particle sizes as small as four nanometres. The technology was developed by the University of Western Australia's Special Research Centre for Advanced Materials and Minerals Processing.
