Electronic Components Association launched

Leading component suppliers have set up the Electronic Components Association Australia and New Zealand (ECAANZ).

ECAANZ 'members' are concerned at the exodus of electronic manufacturing and research and design. Despite some outstanding examples of local and international companies doing local projects but there is also a disturbing number of other missed opportunities that would have benefited the region. We are particularly concerned with regard to retaining and enhancing local manufacture, as the region has much to offer but needs the industry and governments working together to maximise opportunities.

Keith Anderson, Adilam, speaking on behalf of ECAANZ said, "The formal formation of the Association has been in the planning stages for the past twelve months. In general membership is for companies, not individuals that are primarily engaged in the manufacture and/or distribution of electronic components".

ECAANZ will have an information stand and be conducting several seminars/lectures at the Austronics 2001 exhibition, which is supported by the Surface Mount and Circuit Board Association (SMCBA), and the Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association (AEEMA).

The Annual General Meeting of ECAANZ will be held on Tuesday 18th September at 12:30pm during Austronics, at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. Notice of attendance at this meeting is essential.

The meeting will formally pass the Constitution and elect the on-going Board of Directors.

Interim Directors are Keith Anderson (Adilam), Mark Corrigan (Active), Bob Crabbe (Hagemeyer), Peter Krieg (Mayer Krieg), Rodney Lai (Tenrod), Gert Labuschagne (Arrow), John Perrin (Motorola), Quinton Prince (Erni), Eric Rubin (Rubin), and Alan Smith (IRH).

The interim office holders are Peter Krieg, President, Gert Labuschagne, Vice President, Keith Anderson, Secretary/Treasurer, and John Perrin, Public Relations.
