Defence to get video processing
Wednesday, 21 September, 2005
Mediaware, an Australian de-veloper of digital video process-ing systems for the international defence sector, has been selected to receive an Australian Defence Capability and Technology Demonstrator (CTD) project.
The program encourages the development of technologies with the potential to boost future defence capability. The aim of Mediaware's ISR video processing and georegistration CTD is to make digital video and related metadata a central, critical element of emerging ADF network-centric-warfare systems.
Exploiting ISR video to its fullest extent will enable better, faster decision making, more accurate targeting and better deployment and protection of forces. Successful completion of the CTD will also enable Mediaware to commercialise the system for international markets.
The CTD will build on Mediaware's D-VEX ISR digital video exploitation system, and deliver technologies and capabilities to the ADF, including: real-time geo-location of objects viewed in the video feed using sensor metadata for georegistration; automated screening of live video for potential targets or features of interest; real-time annotation of live, streaming video; correcting video for topography to allow for accurate ground coordinate georegistration; and, automated object detection and identification.
