Commander jobs to go
Sunday, 21 October, 2001
Commander Communications has sacked 110 workers and halved growth estimates for 2001.
Managing director, John Dougall, said the deterioration in trading conditions had forced Commander to bring forward a $10 million cost cutting program.
Support staff and employees in the sales and marketing areas will be retrenched. Staff cuts include about 30 telecommunications engineers nationally. About 40 employees at the head office in Victoria have been asked to leave, including clerical staff and workers involved in sales and service support.
