Developed specifically to work with existing web browser technology, the Fieldgate FXA 520 gateway is designed for remote process measurement monitoring, diagnosis and configuration of HART-compatible sensors and actuators.

Suitable for continuous monitoring of up to 30 measuring points, using either a multiplexer or HART multidrop fieldbus, the gateway offers easy integration with existing standard Internet protocols and technology to make all measured values available to authorised recipients anywhere in the world.

It uses the standard TCP/IP transport protocols and offers a choice of ethernet, GSM mobile or ISDN/analog telephone line as the physical mode of transmission.

A safe version [EEx ia] IIC is available and is the first gateway using the HART protocol that can publish measured values from hazardous areas on the Internet.

Powered by either an 85-253 VAC or 20-60 VDC supply, the gateway features 2-channel analog (4...20 mA) HART inputs with galvanic isolation and an RS-485 interface for the HART multiplexer offering significant reductions in connection costs per measured point.

All conventional communication interfaces are supported - analog modem, ISDN modem, GSM, and ethernet - and measuring instruments can be connected in four ways; analog (4-20 mA) HART, point-to-point (one device per channel), HART multidrop (15 devices per channel), or multiplexer (up to 15 devices per multiplexer with a maximum of two multiplexers).

It requires Internet software (Internet Explorer, Netscape) for installing and commissioning its remote monitoring functions. In operating mode, it displays the HART universal commands on an HTML page which, in turn, is displayed on any Internet-capable PC or laptop.

The HART functionality produces information including process variables, instrument status, tag name, serial number etc and also enables remote troubleshooting.

The unit's remote monitoring function makes it suitable for stock and storage level optimisation (in sites such as tank and/or silo farms), environmental protection (flood warnings and water quality analysis), and temperature/over-temp alarms. Event-driven messages (eg alarming emergency standby) can be sent via email or SMS.

The remote diagnostic and configuration functions mean that measurement device diagnosis and configuring/re-configuring functions can be performed from a central location, removing the need for personnel to visit the site.
