InvenSense MotionTracking wearable health sensors
InvenSense’s MotionTracking devices, with embedded MotionFusion software, are capable of providing high-accuracy body movement detection in comparison to traditional accelerometer-only wearable designs. The 6- and 9-axis products have the ability to identify and characterise a broad range of fitness activities allowing for accurate calculations of, for example, calorie burn rate over time.
The devices are optimised for embedded microcontroller subsystems with small memory and processing resources. Complicated MotionFusion and sensor calibration tasks can be offloaded to the digital motion processor (DMP) on the MPU, reducing MIPS and memory requirements on the microcontroller. The solution alleviates the challenges faced by developers by allowing them to focus on differentiated solution development, not the underlying complexities of processing raw sensor data.
The embedded motion software platform consists of open-source drivers, software libraries and the onboard DMP, providing a complete sensor system on chip (SSoC) solution for the 6- and 9-axis devices. The on-chip DMP contained within the MPU device can generate 6-axis quaternion data, which is the fused data of the accelerometer and the gyroscope. With the addition of a compass and the company’s embedded motion software libraries, 9-axis fused data can be achieved.
