Designers and manufacturers of electronic devices face complex demands for reliable and cost-effective electromagnetic interference shielding for electromagnetic compatibility.
With the addition of more than 50 new fabric-over-foam gasket profiles - bringing its standard EMI shielding gasket shapes to well over 100 profiles - Schlegel Systems has a gasket for practically any design challenge - from portable electronics, servers and computers to peripherals and large enclosures.
As electronic devices have evolved and expanded, so have the profile shapes and sizes.
Among the new shapes are a small, flat D-shape used between I/O cards in the cage of a large server, the V-Notch for large cabinet doors, and several versions of Clipper Series C-Fold gaskets, for clip attachment on a variety of openings.
More shapes like a fabric-over-foam cable shield, a triangular shaped gasket and a 2 x 16.5 mm dual EMI shielding gasket have also been developed.
The core of Schlegel shielding gaskets is resilient, open-cell polyurethane foam. This foam formulation allows the gasket to fit snugly into uneven gaps and joints.
The springy foam yields low closure forces in operation. With foam formulation and selected material claddings, fabric-over-foam gaskets are UL 94 V-O recognised under the component program of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.
Gaskets are available in an evolving selection of fabric claddings, from their latest enhanced nickel-copper with C12 coating to the company's signature silver-plated, woven nylon ripstop.
These fabrics are non-abrasive to plated and painted surfaces and maintain galvanic compatibility with a wide range of surfaces.
Attachment methods include mechanical self-attaching, clip, push-rivet and pressure-sensitive adhesive backing with Wide Release Liner option for easy attachment and durability.
