Australian company develops first universal battery-charging solution
Australian company Digital Works has made a major breakthrough in the global battery charger market by developing two first-to-market products that leverage USB technology to charge different mobile devices from the one unit as well as standard rechargeable batteries.
Developed by electronics and computer engineer Wilson Lee, the products not only take battery recharging devices to a new level but also step up to the calls from the United Nations International Telecommunications Union late last year for the development of universal battery chargers to reduce e-waste.
“We have developed two leading-edge products in Australia that will have global appeal, one being a multipurpose battery charger and the other a multifunction cable unit that allows users to charge up many different mobile devices,” Lee said.
Both devices have just been launched onto the retail market in Australia and they are also being exported to the US.
“We are living in a mobile world surrounded by gadgets and running out of power can often be frustrating,” Lee said. “We have developed the ‘REZAP iPower’ unit, which is a flexible and affordable battery charger solution that can efficiently power and charge up almost any USB mobile device available on the market today, including the iPhone 3G, iPod touch plus handheld consoles, MP3 players and cameras.”
The device also recharges standard AA, AAA size rechargeable batteries and, in emergency cases, even alkaline batteries can also be used to give mobile devices a boost of power for a short time.
“This is an environmentally friendly product which breathes a new lease of life into many 6-12 VDC adapters that many people have long forgotten they have at home. These old adapters can now be re-used to charge up the batteries. It also can be used in the car or via any USB port from a notebook or desktop computer.”
Lee said the second device, the REZAP USB multicharge cable, will help to reduce e-waste by being an all-one-one USB cable solution.
