Monolithic Power Systems MP2110 3 A step-down converter

Monolithic Power Systems has released the MP2110 - a 3 A step-down converter with a programmable input current integrated circuit. The device is suitable for applications that require input current limiting. Typical end products include USB-powered devices and portable instruments.

The converter features high efficiency (up to 95%); a high-current step-down converter; an input current limit switch; independent enable pins; external temperature sensing and protection; internal thermal fault protection; and a space-saving 3 x 3 mm qfn14 package. The product also has significant benefits for application circuits, combining a current limit switch and DC-DC converter in one IC.

The current limit switch’s OVP clamp and output discharge function provide extra protection to the system. The wide input voltage range (3.3-12 V) can handle high transients and the external temperature sensing provides a thermal monitoring option. The product’s programmable input current limit provides users with design flexibility and system protection. The converter COT control provides fast transient response to better adapt to dynamic load changes resulting from RFPA.
