Smart home networking technology can connect a variety of devices via the internet. It can provide a wide range of remote services such as appliance control, lighting control, curtain control, telephone remote control, indoor and outdoor remote control, anti-theft alarm, environmental monitoring, HVAC control, IR forwarding and programmable timing control, just to mention a few, and also offers many other features and tools.

Compared with ordinary homes, smart homes not only have traditional residential functionality, but offer a convenient and environmentally friendly living habitat that has network communications, information appliances, equipment automation and assembly systems. Along with the capability to process significant information exchange, this helps families exchange information by externally and internally optimising the family’s lifestyle.

Figure 1: Topological structure of a smart home.

As shown in Figure 1, products like electric curtains and other devices receive instructions from a gateway or remote switch control via the control terminal node to perform functions, as well as using the keypad on the main control panel.

Generally, terminal equipment components are controlled by a low-current voltage through to a suitable high-power relay system. You can see in Figure 2 that the power control node supplies the MCU, ZigBee modules and relays.

The requirements of power supply include:

  • Compact size - the volume is limited by the control node;
  • Safe and reliable - full isolation 3 kV, safe for human contact;
  • Low stand-by power consumption - using quantities of control nodes, energy saving is essential.

To meet these requirements, Mornsun has released LS03-R2 series 3 W 3000 VAC high-isolation products, meeting UL/CE-certified (LS03-R2 Series) products.

Features include:

  • Wide input voltage range of 85-264 VAC (100-400 VDC);
  • 3 kV isolation and wide temperature range of -40 to +85°C (check de-rating spec);
  • Meets certification standards of UL60950/EN60950;
  • Low power consumption and environmentally friendly;
  • Compact size;
  • Vertical or 90° mounting to reduce the height of the product.

The product’s datasheet can be downloaded from http://www.mornsun-power.com/UploadFiles/pdf/LS03_EN.pdf. For higher EMC requirement solutions, refer to the datasheet.
