Intel has showcased the Centrino Duo mobile technology for a new generation of laptops.

The platform is aimed at advancing the digital lifestyle at home, work and on the go. It delivers capabilities to make entertainment mobile for people on the move and improves responsiveness and efficiency of mobile workers.

The Duo is powered by the Core Duo processor (formerly codenamed 'Yonah') and manufactured using the company's 65 nm process technology. Its design has two processors in a package roughly the size of a large postage stamp.

The processor is claimed to improve performance by more than 70% while reducing computer power up to 28%.

It features enhanced three-dimensional graphics and the option to view high-definition TV.

When enabled with High Definition Audio, it also features up to 7.1 surround sound with support for Dolby Digital.

The platform supports active management technology and virtualisation, silicon-based features for enhanced manageability and bolstered security.

The components also enable a 1.2 W average platform power savings.

The Duo mobile technology platform comprises the processor with dual-core processing and the mobile 945 Express Chipset family. The platform also includes PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection.
