Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage has announced the MN09 — a large-capacity, 18 TB addition to its network-attached storage (NAS) HDD line-up.
High growth in data creation is driving demand for higher storage capacities, and work-from-home customers need fast access to data and the ability to archive and share data in private cloud environments. The HDD delivers high storage capacity and power efficiency to meet the growing needs of storage customers.
The product is a 9-disk, helium-sealed, conventional magnetic recording (CMR) drive that leverages Toshiba’s innovative Flux Control Microwave-Assisted Magnetic Recording (FC-MAMR) technology. FC-MAMR advances CMR capacity to 18 TB and delivers increased density per platter over previous designs. Using a MAMR head, HDDs can improve the write ability of the microwave-assisted switching (MAS) effect.
The product is engineered for 24/7 operation and has a workload rating of 180 TB/year. Up to eight drive bays are supported by the 3.5″ drive. The 7200 RPM drive is designed with a 512 MB buffer and delivers a high level of performance with a sustained transfer rate of 268 MiB/s.
