Samsung Electronics has introduced its latest SATA solid-state drives (SSDs) for small and medium-sized businesses — the Samsung PM863 and SM863.

The drives deliver fast speeds in high capacities, as well as good power efficiency, in order to support the heavy demands placed on the data centre. Powered by Samsung’s V-NAND technology, which is said to improve the performance of SSDs, the units deliver high performance while achieving low power consumption levels.

The 3-bit MLC V-NAND-based PM863 is developed for mixed-pattern applications and is suitable for use in content delivery networks and streaming or web servers. The write-intensive SM863, based on 2-bit MLC V-NAND, is suitable for online transaction processing (OLTP) and email and database servers.

The PM863 comes in capacities of 120, 240, 480 and 960 GB, as well as 1.9 and 3.8 TB. It also offers read speeds up to 540 MBps and, for 240 GB drives and above, provides random read speeds of up to 99,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS).

The SM863 provides more options for configurable overprovisioning and is available in capacities of 120, 240, 480 and 960 GB and 1.9 TB. It also features read speeds up to 520 MBps and write speeds up to 485 MBps.
