ICP DAS GW-7472 EtherNet/IP to Modbus RTU/TCP Gateway

ICP Australia has introduced ICP DAS’s GW-7472, which is an EtherNet/IP adapter to Modbus RTU Master and Modbus TCP Client Gateway. It is helpful for data exchange between the Modbus RTU Network, Modbus TCP Network and the EtherNet/IP Network.

The gateway reads the register data from the Modbus RTU slaves as well as Modbus TCP servers and publishes this data to the input register data of the EtherNet/IP scanner. The output data transmitted by the EtherNet/IP scanner are updated to the register data of Modbus RTU slaves/Modbus TCP servers via the GW-7472. In order to save installation space, the gateway is offered in a tiny form factor that makes it easy to install, even directly attached to a serial device or embedded into a machine.

The gateway features a 32-bit MCU to handle efficient network traffic and it provides the IEEE 802.3af-compliant (classification, Class 1) Power over Ethernet (PoE) with a standard category 5 Ethernet cable. Through the NS-205PSE, PoE switch, the gateway can be powered via the Ethernet cable. When there is no PoE switch onsite, the gateway provides another way to be powered from DC adapters. These two power interfaces are redundant. If one fails, another will take over to supply the proper power to the GW-7472.

The gateway enables easy firmware updates via Ethernet and features a removable terminal block connector. It also features an EtherNet/IP Adapter, with up to six connections for explicit messages and one connection for implicit messages. The gateway supports three I/O connection methods: Transport and Trigger (exclusive-owner, cyclic), Originator to Target Type (POINT2POINT) and Target to Originator Type (POINT2POINT, MULTICAST). The gateway also supports EtherNet/IP Input/Output Command, with a maximum data size of 500 bytes. The gateway also supports Modbus RTU Function Codes 01, 02, 03, 04, 0F, and 10. The maximum size of one Modbus Command is 240 Bytes.
