Toshiba TLP241B high-current photorelay for industrial equipment

Tuesday, 09 February, 2021 | Supplied by: Toshiba (Australia) Pty Ltd

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage has launched the TLP241B, a high-current photorelay in a DIP4 package for industrial equipment such as programmable logic controllers and I/O interfaces. The product has an integrated MOSFET based on Toshiba’s latest generation of U-MOS process.

The OFF-state output terminal voltage has been extended to 100 V, a 150% improvement from the 40 V of the current TLP241A. The device is housed in a versatile DIP4 package and is said to be the industry’s first DIP4 packaged product to deliver 100 V OFF-state output terminal voltage, 2 A ON-state current and 5 kV isolation voltage. This rating expansion covers a variety of applications.

The product can replace a 1-Form-A contact mechanical relay; unlike mechanical relays, it has no moving contacts to degrade. Its low current drive feature is also said to improve product life. Other benefits include fast response time and PCB space saving due to the small package size. Since the maximum operating temperature rating is 110°C, temperature design margins of equipment are easy to obtain.

Applications include industrial equipment (programmable logic controllers, I/O interfaces and various sensor controls, etc); building automation systems (HVAC and thermostats, etc); and replacement of mechanical relays (AC 24 to 48 V systems, DC 24 to 100 V systems).
