Toshiba B2909FNG single-chip audio power amplifier

Wednesday, 23 July, 2014 | Supplied by: Toshiba (Australia) Pty Ltd

The TB2909FNG power IC from Toshiba is a single-channel, Class-AB, single-ended push-pull (SEPP) amplifier specifically developed to amplify the simulated sound of a conventional combustion engine. The device operates from a supply of between 6 and 16 V and can deliver a maximum output power of 5 W.

Total harmonic distortion (THD) is rated at 0.08% for an output power of 0.125 W and output noise voltage is 50 μV. Operation between -40 and +110°C supports use in EV warning sound systems where stable performance and extended temperature is required.

Despite the IC’s small size of 4.4 x 5 x 1 mm, the device provides high levels of integrated functionality including a variety of mute capabilities and a built-in standby switch. Abnormality detection and protection for thermal overload, overvoltage, short circuits to GND or V CC and speaker-open conditions are provided, ensuring functional safety.

The product supports other external audible output including reversing alarms and ‘answer-back’ confirmation for keyless remote-entry security. The amplifier’s development allowed the integration of bipolar transistors, CMOS FETs and high-voltage DMOS elements on the same die.
