Crydom Magnetics has launched a reed relay range with improved RF performance.
Developed using Crydom's in-house manufactured vacuum reed switch, the 4-series RF reed relay is capable of withstanding up to 3.5 kV and carrying currents of 3.5 A up to 30 MHz.
The package has options of A, B or bistable latching contact configurations.
Featuring reed switch terminals for flying lead connection (in addition to traditional 'thru-hole' PCB) the series is suitable for applications where high voltages need to be isolated from the control circuitry.
Reed switch operation is via 5, 12 or 24 V coils.
Benefiting from an open frame construction and optional electrostatic screen, maximum isolation is achieved between the RF signal and control paths resulting in ESR (effective series resistance) values down to 80 mohms at 30 MHz.
Manufactured from PPS, a high-grade plastic with good RF characteristics, the series is capable of working in ambient temperatures up to 100°C.
RF reed relays are typically used in HF antenna tuning and filter applications but also find applications in electro-medical and test equipment where high voltages are present and long lifetimes - over 10E9 operations are required.
