The Plessey MaGIC dot LED is manufactured using GaN-on-Si technology and is aimed at the wearable electronics market. The dot LEDs weigh only 0.2 mg with a profile of 0.2 mm.

The PLW138003 is a white LED in a 1005 SMT package designed to address the need for smaller LED components producing highly collimated light. The product comes in a low-profile electronic component size of 1 x 0.5 mm, handled by the common surface-mount machines used in consumer electronics.

The PLW138003 delivers up to 0.7 Lm of white light with a 130° viewing angle from a 5 mA drive current. A blue version, the PLB138003, is also available. The PLB030003 blue LED ultrathin die is also available at 200 x 200 x 75 um.

MaGIC dot LEDs are built using a thin 2.5 µm gallium nitride (GaN) layer on a 6″ silicon substrate, which is said to deliver good performance at a reduced manufacturing cost.
