Tektronix has announced what it claims is the industry's first solutions for testing 40 Gbps optical networks.
The solutions comprise two optical modules, the 40 GHz 80C05 and the 50 GHz 80C06 for the Tektronix CSA8000 communications signal analyser. The modules enable research and development of optical components and network elements for emerging OC-768 and STM-256 standards.
These technologies in turn will enable networks to answer ever-increasing consumer demand for bandwidth in the form of 40 Gbps data rates.
The 80C06 addresses the requirements of 40 Gbps telecommunications signal analysis. The module delivers an optical bandwidth of 50 GHz to meet this challenge.
In addition, it can handle higher power levels - up to 20 mW average optical power - improving the signal-to-noise ratio of the acquired signal.
The 80C05 module provides selectable bandwidths of 40 GHz, 30 GHz, 20 GHz and 9.953 Gbps.
The selectable bandwidth lets users choose optimal noise versus bandwidth performance to accurately characterise the signal. The 80C05 and 80C06 optical modules are designed for use with the Tektronix' CSA8000 Communications Signal Analyser or TDS8000 Series Digital Sampling Oscilloscope.
