Low Profile PCI Boards

Interworld Electronics has released a series of low profile PCI, RS-232 serial boards in one, two and four port versions.

Low profile PCI boards were designed to provide greater flexibility for embedded systems, thin-clients, desktop and server environments. Also under development are eight port asynchronous serial RS-232 boards and multiport asynchronous serial RS-422/485 boards. The boards are mechanically similar to standard PCI boards, but use a shorter board and a different mounting bracket. They are designed to fit into systems as low as 3.350" without using riser cards.

The boards are built on 32 bit addressing, and can be used in standard PCI backplanes or with specialised low profile PCI brackets. These new boards have speeds up to 921.6 Kbps and 16554 UARTs with 16 byte FIFOs (16550 for SSCLP-100).

The boards use a universal connector compatible with both the 3.3 V connector key required by the specification and the 5 V connection used by older PC and thin-client systems.
