For applications in the 20 to 118 A power range Semipack 1 retains the basic design of previous generations but provides 10% more current.

The improved mechanical design inside the module brings improvements in reliability.

The markets for these thyristor, rectifier diode or combined thyristors/diode modules are input rectifiers (single-phase, three-phase, non-controlled, half-controlled or fully controlled) for frequency converters of uninterruptible power supply systems, W1C (anti-parallel) thyristor circuits for soft-start devices, theatre lighting control systems or temperature control devices in ovens.

Besides undergoing modifications, it has retained some of its original features. Specifically, it was important to allow for the problem-free changeover from the 5th to 6th generation without mechanical changes having to be made — in particular in the field.

For example, the external dimensions, as well as the positions of the terminals which must be connected to the DC link circuit, have remained unchanged. Likewise, no changes were needed in the heat sink bore design.

Inside the modules the layers between the chip sandwich and the terminals has been decreased, eg, no molybdenum is used. The removal of materials also means that fewer solder joints are needed.

Improved reliability was possible due to the use of spring contacts, which transfer the current to the auxiliary connections by mechanical pressure.
