Avalue ECM-APL, ECM-APL2-A and ECM-APL2-B embedded SBCs

Avalue Technology has released the embedded single-board computers ECM-APL, ECM-APL2-A and ECM-APL2-B, each of which is equipped with an Intel Apollo Lake processor. The SBCs are suitable for entry-level applications requiring light weight and good system performance.

The Apollo Lake processor includes certain characteristics of its predecessor, Braswell, including a small die SoC designed to slot in below the Core architecture chips, but adopts Goldmount architecture and a 14 nm manufacturing process. Furthermore, the processor integrates a GPU design based on Intel’s Gen9 GPU to offer modern GPU features and higher multimedia performance.

The processor offers fair performance for entry-level applications when used in the SBCs; around 30% higher than the Braswell platform. The processor TDP is 6–12 W, which helps to save energy and prevent possible problems caused by an overheated system. Applications include factory automation, control systems, retail, digital signage, industrial transportation and more.
