Wearable technology grows in popularity

Wearable technology will become popular in mainstream markets within the next two to three years, according to a recent SSI survey. The study showed one out of three people were “very” or “somewhat” likely to buy a wearable device.

When asked to select what type of wearable computer device they were most interested in, people overwhelmingly listed wristbands (65%) as their first choice followed closely by glasses at 55%.

More than 3600 people from seven countries - Australia, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and the United States - weighed in on their vision for the future and their interest in wearable computer devices.

More than 70% of respondents agreed that due to smartphones and social media, nothing in public is private anymore. And more than 75% said that governments need to create better laws to protect people’s privacy when they are out in public.

“This survey is the first of its kind in that it includes respondents using SSI’s QuickThoughts mobile app, a new type of mobile sampling and data collection solution for marketing researchers. The survey also coincides with the launch of SSI’s QuickThoughts mobile app in these seven target countries, all of which are major research markets,” said said Chris Fanning, president and CEO of SSI.
