Maxim MAX4805 and MAX4805A octal buffers

Maxim has introduced the MAX4805 and MAX4805A octal high-voltage-protected buffers optimised for use with piezoelectric transducers and capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducers.

The buffers’ low voltage noise and current noise improve system signal-to-noise ratio to increase penetration depth and sensitivity.

They are suitable for ultrasound imaging and industrial flaw-detection probes, in which board space, power consumption, noise immunity and thermal performance are critical.

The devices feature eight low-noise amplifiers in a non-inverting configuration. The amplifiers are controlled by an enable input, which simplifies device operation. The devices do not require dedicated Tx/Rx signals and include embedded LNA high-voltage protection that is activated once the Tx voltage is greater than ±2.7.

While the buffers differ in terms of typical voltage gain (6 and 9 dB), input-current noise and input impedance (3.8 kΩ and 9.1 kΩ), both ICs operate from dual supply voltages of +2 and +5.
