The iKarPC-W08A vehicle PC has a compact 8″ WVGA touch screen with an 800 x 480 resolution, which is also sunlight readable (brightness 600 nits). The screen is also equipped with an auto dimming feature.
The device uses the low power consumption of the Z510 1.1 GHz processor, making it suitable for in-car and other mobile applications. The unit supports up to 4 GB CompactFlash memory and also features an SSD slot for extra storage.
This in-vehicle PC offers wireless communication over WLAN 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth, HSPA/UMTS, GPS and quad-band EDGE/GRPS/GSM, all of which ensure smooth data exchange for GPS and internet connectivity.
Other features include 1x RS232/422/485, 2x USB, 1x GB LAN and 1x DB 9 vehicle bus protocol OBD II, a diagnostic system that records and displays malfunctions inside the vehicle.
It provides an internal communications network that connects components inside a vehicle. It also provides an interface for users to get vehicle data for diagnostic purposes or travel information such as vehicle speed, engine loading, engine RPM and fuel levels.
The vehicle bus protocol deals with data transmission reliability. The MCU acts as a converter between these protocols. IEI currently supports three major vehicle bus protocols: OBD-II, J1939 and FMS. The OBD-II is mostly for small car diagnostics while the SAE J1939 is suitable for off-road vehicles with diesel engines and the FMS is for commercial trucks or buses.
