Advantech PCM-9363 single-/dual-core SBC

A 3.5″ SBC using the Intel PCM-9363 with Atom N455 1.66 GHz and the dual-core D525 1.8 GHz processors with ICH8M chipset has been released.

The processors integrate DDR3 memory supporting up to 4 GB capacity for D525 and 2 GB capacity for N455, and graphic controller supporting Intel Gen 3.5, DirectX 9.0c and MPEG2 hardware decoder.

The thermal design power rating including processor and ICH8M chipset is 9 W for the N455, and 13 W for the D525.

The device has a single 12 VDC power input and also supports a DC power hot-plug protection design which can protect unstable DC voltage spikes from damaging the board.

To be more reliable and endure extreme environments, Advantech’s PCM-9363 was designed with a high-level, industrial-grade ESD COM port driver IC (15 kV air protection/8 kV contact protection for RS232), 100% solid capacitors with better MTBF compared with electrolytic capacitors and TG-150 PCB type that allows the PCB to endure higher temperatures.

It has 18-/24-bit LVDS and HDMI display capability. 24-bit LVDS panel support is typical these days and common on most LCD panels. HDMI on PCM-9363 supports an HD upscaling function to 1920 x 1080p pixel resolution and VGA is also supported for embedded applications.

The board was designed to be compact and low profile. The total height, from the top to the bottom of the board, including fanless heatsink on the Intel Atom N455 CPU is around 31 mm. The total height including low-profile cooler on the Intel Atom D525 dual-core processor is around 35 mm, making it suitable for 1U chassis designs.

The company also provides an optional thermal solution: a heat spreader that facilitates compact chassis designs with good thermal results. Even using the Intel D525 dual-core processor, the system could be designed as fanless.

The company provides an API suite called SUSI (secure and unified smart interface) which includes: GPIO, SMBus, GPIO, watchdog timer, H/W monitor, brightness on/off, CPU speed and system throttling utilities.

The device supports Windows 7/WES7/XP/XPe/Windows CE 6.0, Vxworks 6.8 and QNX6.5 operating systems and is suitable for many kinds of general-purpose applications such as: POS/kiosk, medical, factory automation, transport, entry-level gaming machines and security and surveillance.
