Advantech PCA-TPM security storage module

The extension module PCA-TPM is compatible with Advantech’s most popular single board computers. It can be used for system authentication and storage device encryption and provides industrial computing users with a new hardware solution for data protection.

For most software protection solutions, passwords are the simplest way to identify and grant information access. But once a storage device is physically removed and installed on other computers, the protection mechanism becomes invalid.

For this device, a data encryption key is stored in the module. If the storage device disconnects from TPM, the encrypted data cannot be decrypted any more, which means data will be meaningless unless both TPM and the storage device use the same key.

This kind of hardware solution provides two layers of protection for computing security.

In the past, the lack of utility programs for TPM modules hindered users from employing security management. But now, Windows 7 has the Bitlocker utility integrated in the TPM module, and Infineon also provides a security configuration tool for TPM control.
