Cadel Evans cycles into Convention 2014
Siemens ambassador and recently retired Tour de France winner Cadel Evans will be a key speaker at Convention 2014 - Australia’s largest-ever engineering event.
Evans will be joined onstage by Siemens Australia CEO Jeff Connolly. He will discuss everything from his recent retirement to innovation in cycling. “As an athlete I know I can play an important role in creating awareness around important issues like the environment and sustainability. That’s why I became an ambassador for Siemens.
Engineers Australia CEO Stephen Durkin said Cadel’s attendance highlights that Convention 2014 is more than just an engineering event - it’s an opportunity to hear from some of the world’s most respected thought leaders on leadership and innovation.
“Convention 2014 is shaping up as the engineering event of the year and we are incredibly excited to have Cadel share insights from his own career and how science and engineering have influenced his sporting life,” Durkin said.
“Engineering has such a wide impact throughout society and that is reflected in the range of speakers at Convention 2014.
“Other speakers at Convention include retired NASA astronauts Colonel Chris Hadfield and Dr Andy Thomas, former Prime Minister John Howard and former Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer discussing how the past has engineered our future,” he said. The announcement comes shortly after the champion cyclist revealed he would retire from the sport after competing in the inaugural Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race on 1 February 2015.
“With Cadel announcing his retirement last month, we look forward to hearing about his future plans - a most fitting way to close out our distinguished panel of guest speakers at Convention,” Durkin said.
Convention 2014 will take place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, 24-28 November. To register, visit www.convention2014.org.au.
