Cardinal Components Lutracore anti-counterfeit chemical fingerprint
Cardinal Components and Infratrac have introduced a solution to the problem of counterfeit electronic components - the anti-counterfeit chemical fingerprint Lutracore.
The chemical fingerprint is composed of several commodity chemicals grouped together to create a code that can be detected in seconds anywhere in the supply chain by a technician with less than an hour of training. The test is a non-destructive procedure that provides verification without harming the product being tested. It is easy to use and adaptable to protect the authenticity of any product.
The fingerprint allows for millions of possible chemical codes to stay ahead of the determined counterfeiters. The system can hold comprehensive information about where the product was created and by whom. Material cost is low, with no need for gold-coated nanospheres or tiny manufactured taggants.
The clear UV-cured coating is invisible to the human eye and can be embedded into plastic moulding compounds, applied to finished printed circuit boards and used in sealed black-box packaged systems. It will not harm components and can be applied quickly to the component in the production line.
The easy-to-use, accurate, authentication systems uses open-source hardware and software and can be used by distributors, law enforcement, customs and international authorities. The applications are broad but particularly suitable for defence and medical device markets.
