NXP Semiconductors EXPLORE-NFC expansion board

element14 has launched the full NFC expansion board, EXPLORE-NFC, to implement external user interfaces for industrial and consumer devices that meet NFC compliance with reader mode, P2P mode and card emulation standards.

Based on the PN512 NFC solution from NXP Semiconductors, the board features an integrated antenna and is supported by an extensive software package while offering a flexible SPI interface. Applications include contactless payment, meter readings, loyalty cards and more.

It is based on the NXP PN512 full NFC forum compliant NFC IC, meeting compliance with all three NFC modes (Reader, P2P and Card Emulation). The reader mode supports all four NFC tag types and NXP’s MIFARE command set.

The flexible interface selection (SPI or I²C) includes software stack for SPI Integrated high performance RF antenna. The board also includes NXP’s MIFARE Ultralight NFC card (NFC forum tag type 2) for an out-of-the-box experience.

The product is suitable for developers of electronics, industrial and consumer applications if they want to implement solutions for NFC ecosystems or integrate an NFC interface into their device. It easily interfaces with the Raspberry Pi.
