Toshiba plans to tell 12,000 workers at its semiconductor division not to come in for two to four days, due to production being deemed not to be necessary.
It will be Toshiba's first stand down at its semiconductor division since 1974. The stand downs are planned for November and December.
The Yokkaichi plant in western Japan will close for four days and the Oita plant also in western Japan for three days. Semiconductor staff at its headquarters and other branches will stand down for two days.
