Australian Electrical Industry Alliance created

AEEMA and NECA have committed to work together to address issues of critical importance to the future growth of Australia's electrical industry.
At a meeting in Sydney, senior representatives of the two principal associations representing the electrical industry identified non-complying and potentially dangerous electrical equipment, training, and the opportunity to jointly participate in standards development as key issues to be addressed immediately.
"It is clear that this alliance could build quickly on work initiated by NECA in 2005 to remove electrical products that do not meet acceptable safety standards," James Tinslay, chief executive officer of NECA said.
Angus M Robinson, chief executive of AEEMA, indicated that AEEMA is also firmly committed to removing unsafe electrical product.
"Whilst the liberalisation of trade has served to lower the prices of electrical products for the home, without a tightly regulated compliance environment, consumers could be exposed to unnecessary risk from electrocution and house fires," Robinson said.
